The 3 Day Guarantee: What Narangba Families Should Know for 2026
Big changes to the Child Care Subsidy are landing on 5 January 2026, and they could make a real difference for your family. The new 3 Day Guarantee Queensland means you’ll get at least three days of subsidised childcare every week—no matter your work or study hours. If you’ve been unsure about how this affects your child’s time at Spring Early Learning Centre, keep reading to find out exactly what’s coming and what you need to do next.
Understanding the 3 Day Guarantee
What’s Changing in January 2026
From 5 January 2026, every family eligible for Child Care Subsidy will automatically receive at least 72 hours of subsidised care per fortnight. This is the equivalent of three full days each week, guaranteed for your child.
The biggest change is the removal of the activity test for this base entitlement. Previously, the number of subsidised hours you received depended on how many hours you worked, studied or volunteered. Now, every eligible family gets those three days regardless of their activity level.
This means whether you’re working full-time, part-time, casually, studying, job hunting, or at home full-time, your child can access three days of subsidised early learning at Spring Early Learning Centre in Narangba.
Who Benefits Most
This Child Care Subsidy in 2026 will be particularly helpful for:
Stay-at-home parents who previously received minimal subsidies
Casual workers want more consistent care arrangements
Single parents with limited work hours
Families where one parent is between jobs
Parents engaged in study or volunteering
For example, a parent working just eight hours weekly from home would previously qualify for only 36 hours of subsidised care per fortnight. From January, they’ll automatically receive 72 hours, doubling their subsidy without any change to their work situation.
Special Provisions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families
Families caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children will receive even more support, 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight (nearly five full days weekly).
To access this Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander childcare subsidy, you simply need to have informed Services Australia that you’re caring for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander child. You can update this information through your Centrelink online account if you haven’t already done so.
What This Means for Your Family
If You Need More Than Three Days
If you’re already entitled to more than 72 hours because of your current work or study arrangements, don’t worry. The three-day childcare guarantee won’t reduce your current entitlement—it only lifts the minimum for families who were receiving less.
You can still qualify for up to 100 hours per fortnight (five days weekly) if:
You and your partner each complete more than 48 hours of recognised activities per fortnight
You have an exemption or are experiencing exceptional circumstances
Gap Fees and Costs
It’s important to understand that while the early learning subsidy Moreton Bay families receive will increase in hours, your subsidy percentage remains unchanged. This means:
You’ll still pay a gap fee based on your family income
The saving comes from no longer paying full, unsubsidised fees
The CCS activity test removal doesn’t affect your subsidy percentage
What You Need to Do
If you already receive Child Care Subsidy, you don’t need to do anything. Services Australia will automatically update your entitlement on 5 January 2026.
However, if you want to increase your child’s days at Spring Early Learning Centre, you’ll need to:
Check your current entitlement through your Centrelink account
Consider your ideal schedule for your child
